Mezzo soprano Maria Soulis enjoys an extensive career in both Canada and Europe. As a resident singer with the Regensburg Opera in Germany, her roles included Charlotte (Werther), Prince Orlofsky (Fledermaus), Dorabella (Cosi fan Tutte), Hansel (Hansel und Gretel), Maddelena (Rigoletto) and Bradamante (Handel's Alcina).

Her voice has been praised as having "ein rubinrotes Timbre" (a ruby red timbre) and "chaude et puissante"(warm and powerful; L'Atelier du Chanteur) and as being "gorgeous, dusky toned" (The Record, Kitchener) and "full of warmth and drama" (Birmingham Post).

Ms Soulis has performed the roles of Adalgisa (Norma), Rosina (Il Barbiere de Siviglia), Nicklauss (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Orfeo (Gluck), Dido (Purcell), La Périchole, Pierotto (Donizetti's Linda di Chamounix), Mrs. Grose (Britten's The Turn of the Screw), Néris (Cherubini's Médée), and Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos) at theatres including Monte Carlo, Metz, Nantes, the Barbican Centre, Wexford and the Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad. Ms Soulis created the roles of Teura and Third Narrator in the new opera Bonjour, M. Gauguin by the young composer Fabrizio Carlone, premiered at the Teatro Fondamenta Nuove di Venezia.

European engagements include many of Mahler's great orchestral song cycles: Rückert Lieder, Das Lied von der Erde and Symphony No. 8 with the Philharmonisches Orchester Regensburg and Kindertotenlieder with the Mährische Philharmonie. Maria’s European opera performances include Madame de la Haltière in Massenet's Cendrillon, the soloist in Theodoraki's ballet ZORBA in Metz, Toulon and Nice, Olga (Eugene Onegin) with the Orquestra Gulbenkia in Lisbon, as well as Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte) in Montpellier.

In Canada, Maria Soulis has appeared in repertoire ranging from Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium (Kingston Symphony) to Dvorak's Requiem (Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony) an Opera Gala with Elora Festival and Mendelssohn's Elijah (Chorus Niagara).

This season marks her debut with Aradia Ensemble and Symphony Nova Scotia (The Dublin Messiah) as well as Windsor Symphony (Bach’s Christmas Oratorio).
