Bio

"As Fiordiligi, Charlotte Corwin revealed that rarity, a real Mozart voice, clearly focused and of a purity that recalled such memorable Mozarteans as Teresa Stich-Randall."

Lyric soprano Charlotte
Corwin is one of Canada's most exciting young singers,
and is quickly establishing herself as a versatile
performer of both opera and concert repertoire.
A member of the elite Atelier Lyrique de L'Opéra de
Montréal from 2005 to 2008, Miss Corwin performed the
roles of Suor Genovieffa (Suor
Angelica), Asphodèle (Chabrier's
L' Étoile), The Governess
(Britten's Turn of the Screw), and
Flaminia in Haydn's Il mondo della
luna. In addition, Charlotte understudied major
roles including Violetta in La
Traviata and Donna Anna in
Don Giovanni and sang
Mélisande in scenes from Pelleas
et Melisande. Charlotte debuted as
Juliette in the 2007 production of
Romeo et Juliette with L'Opera de Quebec.
Charlotte received her Masters Degree in Vocal
Performance and Opera from McGill University, where her
operatic roles included Madame Lidoine
in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmélites,
Minerva in Monteverdi's Il ritorno
d'Ulysse, and Iris in Handel's
Semele.
On the concert stage, Miss Corwin has sung with many of
Quebec's leading orchestras and choral groups,
including Les Violons du Roi (Chantons Noël)
Cantabile Chorus and Orchestra (Mozart
Requiem), St. Lawrence Choir and I Medici di
McGill (Nuits d'Été, Berlioz; Poemes de l'amour et
de la mer, Chausson). In British Columbia, Miss
Corwin was featured in Brahms' Ein Deutsches
Requiem with the Civic Orchestra of Victoria, and
in 2008 presented “Operettas of the Silver Screen” with
the Palm Court Light Orchestra of Victoria.
Charlotte closed 2008 as a soloist in Messiah
with Toronto’s Classical Music Consort and with
Orchestra London. As Flaminia in
Haydn’s Il mondo della luna with Opera in
Concert in January 2009, Geoff Chapman noted in Opera
Canada: "lyric soprano Charlotte Corwin [was]
compelling with secure intonation, comfortable
coloratura and beguiling charm." As winner of the
Joseph Rouleau Award "Best Artist from Quebec" in the
Montreal International Music Competition, Charlotte
presented a recital at St. John's, Smith Square, in
London, England.
Highlights for Miss Corwin’s 2009/10 season include
Belinda in Opera Erratica's innovative
production of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas,
Lord Nelson Mass/Salve Regina (Haydn) with
Aradia Ensemble, Cleopatra with Opera
In Concert (Handel's Giulio Cesare),
Gilda in Opera York's
Rigoletto, and her debut as
Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte)
with Pacific Opera Victoria.
